Friday Link Love - Cucumber Water Edition

Sitting here enjoying another glass of fresh cucumber water, I wonder why I didn’t try this sooner.  I haven’t had a soda in over a week and I feel great!  The lack of caffeine got to me at first, but now I’m doing much better.  I’ll occasionally have some tea or coffee, too, but not the full pot-a-day I was drinking before.  Next week, I hope to find some cheap strawberries so I can try that on a larger scale and experiment further with frugally and healthily flavoring my water.  Now, onto the business of the day.

Congratulations go out to Pinyo this week for celebrating Moolanomy’s first birthday.  With his quality writing and great topics, I would swear he’s been doing this longer than just a year.  He’s an “old pro” before his time!  If you don’t currently subscribe to Moolanomy’s feed, you’re doing yourself a great disservice.  Thanks to Pinyo for being such a supportive member of the Personal Finance Blogging community!

Also this week, Mrs. Micah introduced her Single Step Personal Finance Challenge.  I haven’t answered the challenge yet (my response is coming next week), but it’s something that all of us should think about: What is one step you can take right now to improve your finances or your personal finance system?

Here’s what others have been writing about this week:

Have a great weekend!  See you on Monday.

  1. Cucumber water sounds like a great idea. I developed a taste for plain water (fortunately) but I remember hating the taste of water as a kid.

Looking forward to reading about your single step! :)

  2. Thank you for your kind words. I am sure Caveman will be just as successful (if not more) on your 1st anniversary.

  3. Thanks for the mention!

Hmm. Cucumber water. And has that helped cut the soda cravings? I’ve picked up Crystal Light - Wild Strawberry Energy which is convenient with water bottles and only has 10 calories per pack. But, there’s 10 packs in a box for $3, so it’s expensive. Still, it’s the only thing that’s worked for me to kick the soda habit. Tea isn’t bad - I don’t put sugar or anything else in it, but I still occasionally crave soda with that.

Please let me know how that works out for you! I might have to give it a try!

  4. It hasn’t killed the soda cravings, but at least I’m not thirsty. If I start feeling like I “need” a soda, I’ll add a packet of Splenda to a glass of the cucumber water and that’s usually enough to sate my craving.

  5. Based on your post the other day I tried some cucumber water with a fresh-picked cucumber from our square foot garden. It was delicious (and the fact it cost me nothing, well, minus the seeds, made it that much more enjoyable!).

  6. Told you it was good! :) I’m glad you enjoyed it. I can’t wait until my cucumbers are mature so I can use them instead of store-bought.

  7. At the fancy spa I used to go to in my pre-kids days, they served water with cucumber and lemon slices. I still serve that when I’m entertaining. :)

Thank you for highlighting my post!
