LASIK as An Investment?

A buddy of mine told me last week that he won’t be taking a vacation this year. Instead, he said,

Instead of a vacation, I’m going to take that money and get LASIK done. I consider it an investment toward future vacations.

He had good eyes up until a few years ago when he entered law school. Now that he’s graduated and gotten a good job, his eyesight has noticeably degraded from all of the close reading he was forced to do. He wishes to undo this damage and get rid of his first and only pair of glasses.

He said that, by getting LASIK now, he will be able to enjoy future vacations more by not having to worry about what to do with his contacts or his glasses. Strangely, his reasoning made a lot of sense to me and it started me wondering. How much value would I place on being able to see the clock in the morning? To be able to swim and still see everything else around me? To not have to always carry a lens cloth since I am so clumsy with getting stuff on my glasses?

I can see how that could be considered a personal investment. What about you? Would getting your eyes fixed permanently be of more value to your life than the cost of getting the procedure done?

One Response to “ LASIK as An Investment? ”

  1. I had LASIK done about two months ago and all I have to say is I love it. I do consider it an investment in myself..considering the amount I paid for it.

I have worn glasses since I was a child and it is so great to be able to see without glasses and contacts.

It is liberating to be able to fall asleep on the couch and wake up in the night and not think about my contacts being stuck to my eyes.

I definitely recommend it to anyone who has been thinking about it….but do your research. I had a great experience (you can read about it on my blog) but some people have had problems.
